This time it's on the field; the English press are still debating what their team should do after Rooney was red carded in England's last qualifying game for Euro 2012, for a late and seemingly deliberate kick from behind at the shin of an opposing player. The gratuitous nature of the foul earned Rooney a ban that will see him missing the tournament's entire group stage. As actor and songwriter Joe Flynn knows, this kind of controversy is nothing new.
